WHAT IS 4D ULTRASOUND?
A 4 dimensional (4D) ultrasound is the latest in imaging technology. It is a 3D picture and adds the element of time. This allows you to see your baby in amazing real time detail and watch movement!
HOW CAN I RECEIVE THE 4D ULTRASOUND?
All of our patients receive a diagnostic ultrasound exam during their pregnancy. However, you may want an additional look at your baby. This elective ultrasound can be scheduled.
DO I HAVE TO BE A PATIENT OF ASHLEY WOMEN'S SERVICES IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE 4D ULTRASOUND?
NO. However, all pregnant women have to be under the care of a physician before using this service.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DIAGNOSTIC AND ELECTIVE IMAGE?
A diagnostic image is needed for the diagnosis and confirmation of the pregnancy, gestational age,
fetal size and any other abnormatlities.
The elective 4D ultrasound will show an image of your baby and your baby's movement.
IS THE ULTRASOND SAFE?
An ultrasound is considered to be a safe and non-invasive test. It is a great tool and plays a big role.
WHAT IS THE OPTIMAL TIME FOR THE 4D SCAN?
From 26 weeks and 31 weeks, you will be able to see much more detail of your baby. For twins, the best time is before 28 weeks of pregnancy.
WHAT IS THE PREPARATION NEEDED BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT?
There is a form that your doctor will have to complete acknowledging that you are receiving prenatal care. This needs to be signed prior to your ultrasound visit. We do ask that you arrive a little early to complete your paperwork.
WILL THE PICTURES OF MY BABY LOOK LIKE THE ONES IN THE BROCHURE?
We usually get great pictures. However, the baby's position, the amount of amniotic fluid and gestational age can affect the clarity. Your baby's arm or foot could also block the face.

4D ultrasound scans are used for entertainment purposes only. This service
is not offered for diagnostic purposes for women who are not our patients.
The entertainment scans give you gender determination and allow you to see your baby in real time.
No measurements will be performed and no due date will be calculated. These are done by your doctor as part of your prenatal care.
